NHSEB Welcomes New Voices to Student Advisory Council for 2024-2025
STUDENT IDEAS TO remain at the CENTER OF ETHICS BOWL PLANNING AND GOVERNANCE
The Director and Executive Committee of the National High School Ethics Bowl are proud to announce the program’s third annual Student Advisory Council. Two new students were selected for appointment from among many excellent applications, and each will serve a term through July 31, 2026 or until they graduate. Two current students will continue to serve through July 31, 2025.
As it enters its third year during the 2024-2025 season, the NHSEB program’s Student Advisory Council will continue to bring student experience to the very center of NHSEB’s programming and governance. Appointed students will advise NHSEB’s Leadership and Advisory Board on all things Ethics Bowl from the student perspective. They will also serve as a conduit for informal feedback from other students in their respective Competitive Divisions, ensuring that the voices of NHSEB’s diverse and dedicated student population are heard as much as possible.
In the past, the Student Advisory Council has been instrumental in shaping how our events are run and the kinds of educational resources that we provide to our teams. Our team sifted through a ton of truly impressive resumés, and these students really stood out for their dedication to the Ethics Bowl activity, their schools, and their surrounding communities. We look forward to working with them and to seeing what this new season will bring!
The following students are appointed to the Student Advisory Council:
Bridget Flynn is a junior at the Wheeler School. NHSEB helped her discover and strengthen her interest in philosophy. In her free time, Bridget works as an outreach director at YouthPhil, and as an editor for a philosophy-focused magazine. Bridget hopes to bring her experience to the Student Advisory Council to broaden the reach of NHSEB. She believes in the importance of collaboration between schools outside of event spaces. She looks forward to helping create new ways for teams to work together during the season.
Vishnu Vanapalli is a senior at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics at Durham. Vishnu brings a skill for developing extra-curricular programming to NHSEB. He created after-school chess program, engaged in several research projects, and raised funds for Title I Schools. Vishnu is interested in how opposing values intersect and looks forward to creating spaces for a multiplicity of voices. He hopes to improve the reach of Ethics Bowl by making our events accessible to all communities.
Cailin Bohm is a junior at Campbell High School. She enjoys playing travel soccer, volunteering at Zoo Atlanta, and participating in after-school clubs. In her free time, she loves spending time with her family and friends. As a returning council member, she hopes to support other students share and put their ideas into action. She also wants to help Ethics Bowl participants to grow as a community.
Aahelie Battacharya is a senior at Cupertino High School. Her prior experience in NHSEB taught her how ethics can foster community; it isn’t just a rigid list of rules. This framework inspired her to pursue environmental and AI ethics. As a returning Student Advisory Council member, she hopes to learn about new ethical perspectives. In her free time, she enjoys stargazing, reading, and ice skating.
